The first Thunderbolt 5-equipped laptop has arrived. Razer is now offering the 2024 Razer Blade 18 with prices starting at a whopping-yet-predictable $3,100.

We first saw the 2024 Razer Blade 18 at CES 2024. It’s incredibly powerful for a 0.86-inch thick unit, packing a 14th Gen Intel Core i9-14900HX processor, 32GB of 5600MHz DDR5 RAM, 1TB of M.2 PCIe 4.0 storage, RTX 4070 graphics, and Wi-Fi 7 in its base configuration.

If that’s not enough, you can configure the laptop with 64GB of memory, 4TB of storage (2TBx2), and an RTX 4080 or 4090 GPU. These upgraded GPU configurations include Thunderbolt 5, a first for a laptop. The Thunderbolt 5 standard provides single-direction bandwidth up to 120Gbps and 80Gbps of bi-directional bandwidth. Thunderbolt 5 should be a boon for high-speed data transfer, low-latency display technology, and next-gen peripherals.

Of course, the new Razer Blade 18 has plenty of other features to justify its insane price tag. The port selection is as good as ever, with 2.5 GbE and HDMI 2.1 connectivity, three USB 3.2 Type-A ports, a USB-C port with DisplayPort Alt Mode, and a Thunderbolt 4 port (Thunderbolt 5 in the upgraded configs).

The base model also uses a QHD+ (2560×1600) Mini-LED display with a 300 Hz refresh rate. Customers can upgrade to a 4K 200Hz display, assuming that they can tolerate a slightly slower refresh rate. It’s worth noting that the 4K display was previously advertised at 165Hz—I’m not sure why the number changed, but Razer calls the 4K 200Hz display a “first.”

I should note that the 2024 Razer Blade 18 runs RTX 4080 and 4090 graphics cards at a maximum of 175 watts. That’s less than the maximum draw you’d get on a desktop PC, but it’s excellent for a gaming laptop. You won’t reach maximum power while using the laptop on battery, of course.

To that point, Razer is still using a 91.7 WHr battery in the Razer Blade 18. If the previous version of this laptop is any indication, you can expect about 6 or 7 hours of battery life when performing everyday tasks. However, the new Razer Blade 18 comes with a 330-watt GaN charger, which should provide significantly faster charging than the old 280-watt charger.

You can purchase the 2024 Razer Blade 18 today with prices starting at $3,100. Last year’s model now starts at $2,699, if you’re looking for a bargain.
