Samsung is preparing to launch the 2024 Galaxy Tab S9 Lite, a mid-range tablet with an integrated S Pen stylus. Arriving March 28th in some regions, the tablet may be a good option for entertainment or casual work, though it’s basically identical to its predecessor.

The 2024 Galaxy Tab S9 Lite sports a compact and simple design. It’s intended for everyday tasks, such as streaming, web browsing, video conferencing, DeX desktop computing, and lightweight gaming. An integrated S Pen stylus is also included for note-taking or illustrating.

Spec-wise, the 2024 Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is practically a duplicate of its predecessor, the 2022 Tab S6 Lite. Both devices use a 10.4-inch display with a 1200 x 2000 resolution, a 7040mAh battery, and 4GB of RAM. They both come in Wi-Fi and LTE flavors, they both have headphone jacks and microSD ports, and quite naturally, each tablet is equipped with an S Pen.

The only difference between the 2024 and 2022 Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is the processor. Samsung is upgrading from an octa-core Snapdragon 720G chipset (2×2.3 GHz & 6×1.8 GHz) to an unspecified octa-core processor (4×2.4 GHz & 4×2.0 GHz). Presumably, this unspecified chipset is the Exynos 1280, which is now about two years old. But it’s a semi-substantial upgrade from the Snapdragon 720G, which is itself a four-year-old chipset.

I’m compelled to point out that the Galaxy Tab S9 FE, another one of Samsung’s mid-range tablets, sports a more powerful Exynos 1380 chipset. Samsung also sells a far more affordable entry-level tablet, the Galaxy Tab A9+, which may be the most appropriate option if you only want to stream video or browse the web.

There are just two unanswered questions—pricing and regional availability. Samsung says the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite will launch March 28th in some regions at an unspecified price. We’ve reached out to Samsung for clarification. If I had to guess, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite may arrive in Europe and Asia before it hits North America. The Galaxy Tab A9+ also experienced a late arrival in North America.

Pricing for the 2024 Galaxy Tab S6 Lite probably floats around the $400 range. At least, that’s how previous models were priced. This tablet seems like a great option for streaming, notetaking, and other casual work, though I also suggest looking into the Galaxy Tab S9 FE, which is similarly priced and runs a far more powerful chipset.
